Why has my comment or upload been removed?

Page updated: 20 September 2018

There are two reasons why your comment or upload will have been removed from a BBC website or app:

1. Another person has reported it for breaking the BBC's rules for commenting and uploading.

2. It has been spotted by our moderation filters or a moderator.

Read more about how we moderate here.

If any of your comments or uploads are removed we'll email you and let you know why. It’s not possible for a moderator to remove a comment without automatically creating an email with a brief explanation. This helps keep the system fair.

Sometimes, you may get a personalised response telling you why your comment was removed. But we can't do this all the time.

If you’ve read the email and don’t agree then you can appeal against the decision. Find out how to make an appeal here.
