Should Muslim countries recognise Israel?

Saudi Arabia has suggested that all Arab countries should normalise their relations with Israel in return for a Palestinian state and Israel's withdrawal from all the territories it has occupied since 1967.

The Saudi peace plan has been welcomed by most countries. It provides a glimmer of hope for ending the violence that has so far claimed more 1700 lives, including 1500 Palestinians during the current Intifada. Significantly, the plan says nothing about the right of return of more than three million Palestinian refugees, recognised by the UN resolutions but opposed by Israel.

Should all the Muslim countries recognise Israel if it returns to its pre-1967 borders? Can the Saudi plan bring peace to the middle east? What do you think will happen if Saudi proposal also fails?

US companies not only build Saudi highways and buildings, but they are also the creator of Saudi foreign policies. Saudi monarchy speaks what USA wants them to. It's a US plan with no sincerity behind it which will ultimately create huge markets for Israel/Jew based business. Saudis don't have any say on any issues when it comes to foreign issues. They are lost in lust and leisure and have nothing to do with Muslim world's problems.
Amin Jafri, Canada

No, there is no need of any compromise. I think that Abdullah not sincere with Palestinians and all Muslim of the world. He wants to please the American government.
Nazir Dashti, Rahim Yar Khan, Pakistan

The Saudi proposal is excellent one
It is a fair one and gives both sides a fair chance of peace
  Abdul Khaliq Achakzai, Chaman, Pakistan
and the only solution of the dispute that has claimed several precious lives of Palestinians and there is complete unrest in the Middle East. This proposal is first of its kind. This proposal is also very good for Israelis as well. It is a fair one and gives both sides a fair chance of peace.
Abdul Khaliq Achakzai, Chaman, Pakistan

All Muslim countries should together force America because Israel is a small part of America. This is not solution that all countries normalise relation with Israel because they lie after that they will do again like Americans doing to crush Muslims in all world.
Shairaz, Islamabad, Pakistan

Israel will not accept it. The Jews in America, who apparently control everything in the USA, will never allow any peace especially suggested by Saudi Arabia. America is making Israel stronger by supplying tanks and other means of destruction and these tanks kill innocent Palestinians on a daily basis. Sharon has gone on record to say that I want to kill Palestinians.
Iftekhar, Kashmir

I love peace, therefore, I agree to every peace proposal including this.
Hasan Nasir Baloch, Karachi, Pakistan

Saudi Peace Plan can only be workable when the Muslims
Like others, I am a staunch supporter of peace and also in favour of Saudi Peace Plan, but who will guarantee that Israel will not breach this resolution in future.
  Hafiz M Munir, Pakpatan, Pakistan
are equally capable of Military and Nuclear arsenal. Compromises and truces are always signed between the rivals who are equally powerful and the world history is full of such examples. But today the Middle Eastern Muslims still cannot claim such phenomenon. Like others, I am a staunch supporter of peace and also in favour of Saudi Peace Plan, but who will guarantee that Israel will not breach this resolution in future.
Hafiz Mohammed Munir, Pakpatan, Pakistan

Saudi proposal is excellent, but Israel, backed by USA will, never accept to withdraw from Jerusalem. Jerusalem should be declared as International Holy site and should be governed by United Nations. In this way no country would be able to claim it people of all religious backgrounds would have access to Jerusalem.
Khalid Jamil, Melbourne, Australia

We totally agree with the peace plan. We have been studying the Palestinian/Israeli conflict in school and think that this would be the ideal solution for the peace in the Middle East!
Jenna Lupino-Poole and Carla Thompson, Nottingham, UK

I believe this peace plan from Saudi prince is like killing two birds with the same stone.
BUT it’s nearly impossible to achieve peace in Middle-East if America keeps on supporting Israel and keep labeling Palestinians as terrorists.
  Aamir, Australia
One, they can save their kingdom also show the Muslim world that they are doing something for Muslims. Two, they are trying to get sympathies from USA (which is vital for them to survive). Personally, I don't mind the proposal as it’s been too long that the region has enjoyed peace. World community should come forward and solve this puzzle to save many thousand lives in future. If Israel withdraws from all the occupied territory and gives all the rights to Palestinians and respects their freedom, than I believe there is no harm accepting Israel as a state. BUT it’s nearly impossible to achieve peace in Middle-East if America keeps on supporting Israel and keep labeling Palestinians as terrorists.
Aamir, Australia

Islamic world follow the decisions taken by the Arab world. As most of the members of the Arab League do not recognise Israel the Islamic countries also do not give the recognination status to Israel. If Arab world decides to recognise it I am sure most of the Islamic countries will also do the same. The proposal which the Saudi prince has given can only be accepted by Israel if there is a strong pressure of world community as a whole.
Moid Khan Ghouri, Pakistan

The Saudi proposal is excellent, but Isalies will not accept this as they have already opposed it in the UN. If United States stop its support to Israel only then Israel will accept this proposal.
Mohammed Muzaffar Moinuddin, SA

It's true that "Saudi Arabia and United States" are working hard to bring peace in the Middle East but there will be no peace before the day of judgment.
N B Khan, USA

No compromise with the Jews, they have always been terrorists in the world.
  Sheryar, Denmark
No compromise with the Jews, they have always been terrorists in the world. They always show the world that they are innocent through their strong media and its well known that media can capture the minds of people. We should open our mind and see that what kind of Muslims are these Saudi princes. They are only Muslims by name, who have sold there religion in the hand of Americans, and America is taking all the benefits it wants from them. America has the control over the oil fields in Arab and
has also engaged its army there to control the whole Arab. We should shake our minds and think that why we have'nt recongnized the Israel so far. And why we are excepting it now. Please Don't get influence by media..try to scratch the reality.
Sheryar, Denmark

Saudi plan is the best. Isreal should accept this to keep peace in the Middle East.
Anjam and Altaf, USA

Saudi royal family is ruthless, opportunist and selfish. They are offering this peace plan at a time when Sharon humiliated Yasser Arfat to the maximum and imprisoned him, distroyed his helicopters and airport. Yes, the royal family is in trouble these days and this plan at the best is a shot in the dark to please the United States.
Saeed Yazdani, USA

The peace plan of Prince Abdullah shows the weakness of the Arab world.
Instead of offering Israel recognition if this aggressor vacates the occupied lands, the prince should have demanded immediate withdrawal of the aggressor from the Palestinian lands.
  Prof Mukhtar Ali Naqvi, USA
Instead of offering Israel recognition if this aggressor vacates the occupied lands, the prince should have demanded immediate withdrawal of the aggressor from the Palestinian lands. He should have stressed that the UN resolutions 242 and 338 must be implemented and if Israel refuses, a UN force should be constituted to oust the aggressor. It did not say anything about the recognition of Israel that came being by terrorism.Prince Abdullah's offer of recognition of Israel by all Arab states is devoid of practicality. No country can be forced to recognise any country. Why should Algeria or Mauratania recognise Israel? They may do it or not do it.
Prof Mukhtar Ali Naqvi, USA

It is good suggestion from Saudi Arabia but which country will take the responsibility honestly to ensure the peace process from Israil's side as compre to the Israil's previous behaviour and role.
Zafar Ali Khan, Pakistan

This peace plan took too long to come. If Saudi Monarchy tried it before the Gulf War, situation could have been better in the Middle East.
  Naila Rafi Kirmani, Canada
This peace plan took too long to come. If Saudi Monarchy tried it before the Gulf War, situation could have been better in the Middle East. They've paid agraeat price already in terms of torn apart Muslim unity in and out of Middle East .Basically, Arab countries still have bias of" Arab and Ajam(non-arabs). They never thought about Muslims as whole, they always talk about Arab Muslims. Even they don't want to condemn what ever is going on in Indian Gujrat. It's really very couragious to design that kind of peace plan for them, who always want America to solve their problems, without giving it a thought that America is always a babysitter of Israel.
Naila Rafi Kirmani, Canada

I doubt if Israel will agree to any serious peace plan. Let alone the Saudi intiative. As long as the US plays a role of a 100% biased mediator in the conflict and continues to ignore Israeli non-compliance of all UN resolutions...so much for another peace plan.
Syed Irfan, UAE

It is a a good plan suggested by Saudi arabia, but who knows if Israel will accept this plan.
Abdul Latif Elahi, Egypt

The Saudi peace proposal has given a few rays of hope to all peace-loving people in the world.
S.M.Husain, London UK

I totally agree with the Saudi Foreign Minister's statement , but it would be better if he talked of all Muslim countries rather than all arab countries, and he should call on them to resolve the Kashmir issue as well as the Palestinian issue.
M. Asad Mirza, Taif, Saudi Arabia

Both the parties should focus on providing a bright future for their future generations. Somewhere, somehow, compromise is the key word. The Saudi government has come up with a practical and justified solution. The world powers should support the view and do their best to bring peace to the region.
Anil Prakash Pande, Sharjah, UAE

No compromise with the Jews, they always been terrorists in the world. All the world nations should unite and take action against Israel.
Fisa, Multan, Pakistan

The Saudis already damaged the name of the Muslims, when they asked for military help from USA in the Gulf war. And now they want to sabotage the Palestinian struggle for freedom. The Palestinian people are more determined then any other nation. And I hope a new Intthefada will gain them freedom one day.
Aftab Ahmed Abro, Karachi, Pakistan

The Saudi peace plan good for both the Arabs and the Israelis but it is not the ultimate solution for the Palestinians.
The Saudi peace plan good for both the Arabs and the Israelis but it is not the ultimate solution for the Palestinians
  M. Zakariya Babur
The main problem is the disintegration among the Muslims. The Muslims still differentiate between Arabs and non-Arabs, although Islam strictly deprecates such inequalities. Peace cannot be maintained until Muslims are united. If they unite then no one will dare to harm them. The Muslim rulers are responsible for all the killings and brutalities. They have taken oath to be the followers of Uncle Sam not obedient to God. If this plan works out, the only beneficiaries will be the leaders who will once again prove their sincerity to their real Rulers. Compromising on principles can never be a peace formula.
M. Zakariya Babur, Bahawalnagar, Pakistan

The mother of all corrupt regimes, the Saudis have at last lost their nerve against Israeli might. Why now ? Why was this peace proposal not offered 54 years ago? Perhaps the time for the Saudi monarchy is now over. The Saudis have left a huge gap in the proposal, they have left the crucial issue of Jerusalem to be decided by Palestinians and Israelis. Can Jerusalem ever be divided?
Mohammad Yameen, Toronto Canada

The Saudi plan is going to be the eye opener for the world, because no matter what you do, Israel will not withdraw from the occupied land. Thus the world will then realize the true intentions of the Zionists.
Osama Bin Javaid, Dubai, UAE

This looks to be the only viable solution and the Saudi effort should be appreciated.
Dr Aijaz Malik, Najran, Saudi Arabia

No compromise with Israel! America should play the same role in the Middle East as in East Timor.
Mohammed Abdul Baseer Mohsin, Yanbu, Saudi Arabia

Only if all the territories are handed over to One Palestinian State.
Mudassir, Karachi, Pakistan

The leaders of the world should not be negotiating peace with the biggest terrorist in the world, they should instead be putting him on trial at The Hague. The Palestinians should not resume talks until the "Killer Sharon" is removed from power and is put behind bars.
Sag Hussain, UK

We need peace in the Middle East because the conflict there makes the whole world unstable.
We need peace in the Middle East because the conflict there makes the whole world unstable
  Asif Mehmood, NJ, USA
Peace is only possible when both the Palestinians and the Israelis take a less rigid stance. They have to be flexible and have an approach of give and take, otherwise there will be endless violence in the region. This is the first time that there seems to be a consensus between Israel and Arabs on this crucial issue ,therefore it must be put into practice.
Asif Mehmood, NJ, USA

I fully agree with the Saudi proposal for peace, because there is no substitute for peace in the world.
Saeed Baloch, Karachi, Pakistan

With the Saudi prince's peace plan, Muslims have given a nice chance for peace in middleast. This is the only chance for the final peace in the middle east, otherwise a war is waiting to destroy the economic and civic enviornment of the middle east. This war will affect all Muslim countries because the three holy cities of islam Mecca, Madina and Jerusalem will be in danger.
Irfan, Attock, Pakistan

I think it is time for all Islamic countries to form a united front to publically, politicly, and
economically support and solve the Palestinian and Kashmiri
problems to maintain world peace.
Majid Ali Khan, Ohio, USA

The Saudi peace plan provides a golden chance to Israel for establishment of peace in Middle East.
  Subh-i-Sadiq Sukhera, Lodhran
The Saudi peace plan provides a golden chance to Israel for establishment of peace in Middle East. The Jews should forsake their thinking that they are superior to Muslims. All men are equal. If Israel accepts this plan, it will be for their future generations. When relations of Israel are normal with Arab countries and there is peace all around, it will herald progress in the region. I think in case Israel loses this chance, this problem may lead to a third world war.
Subh-I-Sadiq Sukhera, Lodhran

What about the innumerable innocent Palestinian lives? Won't the future Palestinian generations question? Inactivity of kingdoms like these is mainly responsible for the killings of Palestinians. And here they are dreaming to be pioneer of peace for the problems they themselves complicated by sheer neglect for years -- to serve their own vested interests.
M Athar Parvez, Pune, India

The Saudi proposal is very good one, not only for the Arab world but for Israelis too. It is a fair one and gives both sides a safe face in the world community.
Alex Abbas, USA

First important thing is to stop all the violence in the Palestinian areas.
  Prof Suhail Aziz, Loralai
If a Palestinian young boy opts for suicide, all the super powers and especially the United States should think about the gravity of the situation. It is the responsibility of all countries to pressurize Israel to stop its violence and later retreat from occupied. Only then the Arabs should recognize Israel.
Prof Suhail Aziz, Loralai, Pakistan

Nothing less than the destruction of the Jewish state is acceptable. The fight will continue till they are expelled from the holy land. This is not the first time they have illegally occupied Muslim land.
Z H Sandhu, Sargodha

Now at last President Bush has announced the next phase of anti-terrorism campaign. His next targets could be Iraq, North Korea, Iran, Somalia and Syria. My only request to him is not to kill innocent people. Please stop this brutality.
Umar Kheyam, Peshwar

My message is for Muslims living all over the world. Now the time is to make sacrifices. This is the time to become united and to make the image of Muslims good. The time is to do Jihad. Support Jihad through media. Jihad means get valuable knowledge and utilize that knowledge. Jihad is the only way to cope up with the hardships today Muslims are facing. Jihad means not only to fight against cruelty through weapons but also to fight against cruelty through any source which all Muslims carry.
Labib Shah, Bahawalpur

No compromise, Israel must leave the land of Palestinians.
Aftab Ahmed, Karachi, Pakistan

I totally agree with the Saudi Government decision as it is the only peaceful way to resolve this tragic issue between Palestine and Israel. Islam is the religion of peace and harmony and this is the time to act and restore peace in the world.
I totally agree with the Saudi Government decision as it is the only peaceful way to resolve this tragic issue
  M Fakhar Iqbal, Saudi Arabia
After the September 11 attacks on the the US, the whole picture of world peace has changed.Terrorrism has changed its dimensions. Innocent lives being claimed at any place on earth will not bring about peace or solve anything. We have to work things out one way or the other to restore peace.
M.Fakhar Iqbal, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia

The Saudi proposal is welcomed by all the Muslim countries, the United States and Israel should accept the proposal and implement it as soon as possible to stop the bloodshed. The world is a dangerous place these days, therefore please give peace a chance
C Jozey, London, UK

I don't see any other option. Enough is enough -- for both of them.
Faisal Ikram Bhatti, Texas, USA

I think it is a good proposal and both countries should accept this without wasting more time.
Israel should also stop violence if their prime minister is really sincere to his nation.
Faisal Taqi, Sheikhupura, Pakistan

The Saudi peace plan is a mature effort toward peace in Middle East. The international community should not lose this chance; otherwise this fire will burn the whole world.
Abid Zaman, Toronto, Canada

This is only way to solve the problem.
Rashid, Pakistan

It is about time that this proposal came from the Saudis. When the Saudis say something, most of the Muslim world listens.
Israel is here to stay and Arabs, governed by the dictators and kings, cannot win this stupid war.
  Afroz Bakht, USA
The Arabs need to forget what has happened in the past and to start a new day with a good understanding of today's realities. Israel is here to stay and Arabs, governed by the dictators and kings, cannot win this stupid war. Let's live in peace and not be consumed by hate, both religious and nationalistic. If the followers of three great religions, Islam, Judaism and Christianity were able to coexist with peace and harmony for almost 800 years in Spain (711- 1492),why can't they live in peace now? Surely, they can, if they want to. Thanks, Mr. Abdullah
Afroz Bakht, Dallas, USA
