Helen Mark is in Donegal with local historian, Belinda Mehaffey who tells the extraordinary story of the Reverend James Porter who lived outside Lifford. They discuss how Porter campaigned for tenants’ rights through his writing in the Northern Star, which made a mockery of the establishment. They also talk about how Porter came to join the Society of the United Irishmen and was sentenced to death for being an agitator by Lord Londonderry. (Broadcast: 9th May 2010)
