Nurse Louisa Pollock

Nurse Louisa Pollock

Florence Chambers tells Andy Mattison about her ancestor Louisa Pollock from Hillsborough. She emigrated to Australia at the beginning of the 20th century, but came back to the UK to “do her bit” at the outbreak of WW1. We learn how Louisa became matron of the famous Queen Mary Hospital at Roehampton in England, which specialized in dealing with amputees. Plus, Florence talks about the history of service within her family. (Broadcast: 9th Jan 2011)
