Noo Am sure yese ir aa seek o hearin folk wushin ye a happy new year - but is it naw nice that sae mony folk taak tha time tae dae tha lake.

Onywye, noo that maist folk wha had tae thole ‘a big heid’ ir on tha wye tae health an strength agen, Am gane tae wush yese, yin an aa, a richt happy new year agen - an for guid missure, here’s a wee Scottish toast for yese aa.

Mae tha best ye hae iver saa bae tha warst ye’ll iver see.
Mae tha moose niver lea’ yer girnal wae a tear drap in its ee.
Mae ye aye keep hail an herty tae yer oul eneuch tae dee.
Mae ye aye jest be sae happy as A wush ye aye tae be.

Tha new year is a time for lukin forrit tae better things an tryin tae lee behin tha bad things that micht hae heppened in tha year jest bye.

Folk begin tae swither aboot what they micht dae in tha months tae come. Tha oul yins, whun A wus a wean, wud hae sterted tae taak aboot tha moss (tha mair they wudnae bae gane tae cut peats tae efter Aister), but they wud hae bane taakin steps tae get a new trinnel made for tha peat borra.

Ye see in them dehs it wus tha simple things that metthered tae folk - they had tae wurk gie an hard tae keep boady an sowl tha gither an hadnae mony luxuries.

But here A am agen channerin on aboot times noo awa intae tha mists o time.

Tha nixt big heppenin tae luk forrit surely haes tae bae Burns Nicht an it is nice tae see that mair an mair, throughoot tha country, Burns Suppers an Concerts ir baein hel in abundance. Noo Am naw nae expert on tha grate bard himsel but, mine ye, tha mair he wud hae ris tha odd ruchsion in his dey, he wus yin o the best wha iver scrieved on paper.

But sure what betther wye tae finish than wae twarthy wurds frae tha bard himsel.

Then let us pray that come it may,
As come it will for a’ that,
That sense and worth, o’er a’ the earth,
Shall bear the gree, an’ a’ that.
For a’ that, an a’ that,
It’s coming yet for a’ that,
That Man to Man, the world o’er,
Shall brothers be for a’ that.
