Poems of John Clifford (1900-1983)

John Clifford

For more than half a century, the name of John Clifford has been synonymous with poetry in the east Antrim area where he reigned supreme as king of the country bards.

It has long been the opinion of his many friends that such gems as ‘The Daeler’s Wake’ and ‘Mounthill Fair’ merited a much wider audience so it is with much pleasure and pride that this little volume is now published by the Larne and District Folklore Society.

John had a deep and abiding love of the countryside: he loved its people, their lore and their language. The preservation of their customs and traditions was the work that lay closest to his heart.

This collection of John Clifford’s poems comprises 38 poems and a foreword by Sam Cross, together with some little contextual notes where necessary.
