According to Dr Anand, Indian Classical Music is
deeply healing and therapeutic.
Based on cycles and rhythms of nature, Indian music
can enhance emotional expressiveness.
Music and art as complementary therapy is nothing
new. Most people would agree that their favourite song or a particular
work of art can bring pleasure and alter ones mood.

Dr Anand feels there is a great
potential for the teaching of music.

and centre for excellence in the teaching and performance of Indian
Classical music.

New Wave Music
On Thursday 9 Oct, at Gosforth Civic Hall, Gurukul
invite you to experience a demonstration of the power of music as
therapy.
The Gurus of Gurukul will lead the audience through
various musical modes for an in depth experience of the emotional
expressiveness of traditional Indian Classical music.

| EEG
is harmless and fun! |
This will be followed by a real-time demonstration
of EEG tracings live on stage.
While a volunteer is lead through singing by the Gurus, their EEG's
will be projected on screen for the benefit of the audience.
EE What?
EEG is short for 'electroencephalogram', a harmless,
non invasive investigation that tells us about the activity of the
brain at any given time.
The EEG records tiny electrical signals coming from
the brains which are picked up by electrodes placed on the scalp.
Some people confuse ECT with EEG.
 |
| EEG can be used for mindreading |
ECT is a form of treatment in which an electric
current is applied to the head.
Howeve, in an EEG there is no current passing into
the head, merely tiny electrical signals coming out of the head.
An EEG is a harmless investigation.
Music for Pleasure
The EEG demonstration will be followed by the first in a series
of practical workshops open to anyone who wants to relax through
the joy of singing.
Gurukul also teach Indian Classical music for voice and both traditional
Indian and Wesatern instruments such as tabla, sitar, harmonium,
esraj , Indian violin and flute.
 |
| Violin - Indian Style |
Gurukul is open to all members of the public and
