Lorraine's Sing Live diary: 6
Lorraine and the altos at the Jesmond rehearsal
Lorraine and the altos at the Jesmond rehearsal

I was disappointed last week because I couldn’t attend the rehearsal due to the weather.

I felt very envious when I heard that some brave souls had made it to rehearsal AND they had learnt a new song!

The songs are becoming more familiar, but I am still having a problem with learning the words. When Gary requests that we sing without our books, my mind goes blank and I can’t even remember the first word – I make frantic signals to my friends to help me out only to find the first word is ‘Oooo’ or ‘Ah’.

After the rehearsal I joined the others in the pub for a chat and the general feeling is that singing is good for the soul and we all feel a lot happier for it.

quote Not long to go now, as it's only 3 weeks on Saturday! quote

John led the rehearsal at Jesmond on Saturday. We learnt lots of different things including singing in regional accents, how to do cakewalk style, along with the usual warm up exercises. We heard Kevin sing his solo piece. It must have been very nerve-racking for him, but he was excellent – I hope the choir are allowed to give him a standing ovation at the City Hall!

After hearing Kevin, I am now looking forward to hearing all of the other soloists and how their songs fit into the programme.

Not long to go now, as it’s only 3 weeks on Saturday – ‘oooo’ or is it ‘ahhhhhh’?
