It is the end of the road for one of the region's best known cinemas.

After 72 years the curtain fell for the last time at the Odeon in Pilgrim Street in Newcastle. The Odeon has seen the passing of silent movies, historical tear jerkers and the classic output of British film makers.

Since the Odeon in Pilgrim Street opened, 55m film buffs have passed through its doors. Over the years up to 15,000 films have been shown.

The last films on offer at the four screen cinema include the latest Harry Potter film and of course the 20th James Bond Film.

However many regret the passing of the Odeon in Pilgrim Street, the Odeon name will live on at the New Gate complex in Newgate Street.
