Sculptor Antony Gormley is offering 200 volunteers the chance to take part in his latest project. But its brief is a little out of the ordinary.

Gormley is looking for people of all shapes and sizes who are willing to strip completely naked before being wrapped in clingfilm and covered in plastercast.

Once the casts are made, the backs will be cut off and small pieces of metal will be welded into the shape of the body.

It's for a huge work of art, Domain Field, to be created and displayed at the Baltic in Gateshead.

Once in a lifetime opportunity

Gormley has already begun training Baltic staff in the technique of applying the plaster, ready for the work to begin in January 2003. See how they got on in our gallery.
