Great North Run 2006

The start is always a spectacular sight

Great North Run 2007

It's coming around to that time of year again - the Great North Run. BBC Tyne will be running a series of features to mark the event and we want you to get involved with your stories, pictures and messages of support.

There has been a definite increase in the amount of runners out pounding the streets - a sure sign that the Great North Run is now only a couple of months away.

This year's run is on Sunday 30 September and thousands of runners will by now be well into their training schedule to make sure they are ready for the famous half marathon between Newcastle and South Shields.

As usual, BBC Tyne will have a whole host of content in the run up to the big day, with features, information, videos, tips and photos to give you a real flavour of the event.

And we want to hear from you.

Have you got a story to tell about why you are running this year's Great North Run? If you have an interesting story then why not get in touch and become part of our coverage of the event.

And keep an eye on BBC Tyne in the run-up to the event - there will be a chance to send messages of support to runners and send e-cards to wish people good luck or let them know you're running.

And over the Great North Run weekend we'll have a team out and about to take dozens of photos so you can come back and check whether you've been snapped.

Good luck with the training.

And in the meantime take a look at pictures from last year's Great North Run for inspiration.
