Demise of Swan Hunter?Could this be the end of the North East shipbuilding heritage? Jaap Kroese, owner of the Swan Hunter shipyard, is disposing of cranes and land at Wallsend.

| | Jaap Kroese, owner of the Swan Hunter shipyard, says the business is effectively finished. Mr Kroese has sold the Wallsend yard's iconic cranes and says he is now looking to sell off the land on the banks of the Tyne too. Its got to be said this all kicked off in the Thatcher years,our company supplied Ships telegraphs over 100 years old but also gone like nearly all manufacturing.

sad to see the demise of this facility i worked there when transferred from govan shipbuilders and worked on the replacement for the atlantic conveyor
