John Lennon
Could you sing like John?

Wanted: John Lennon fans

The Baltic are organising an exciting new art project and you could land yourself a starring role. So if you like to sing and you love John Lennon, read on...

Staff at the Baltic are on the look-out for serious John Lennon fans to take part in a special video tribute to the musical icon, which will be shown at venues around the world.

If you like to sing, know the lyrics to ‘Plastic Ono Band’, and know everything there is to know about John Lennon, you could be just the type of person the Baltic is looking for to help artist Candice Breitz create a new video-installation.

Musical portraits

Candice Breitz will be in residence at the Baltic later this year. In her work she creates portraits of musical legends by producing new recordings of their most iconic albums using the voices of their most passionate fans. These recordings are then displayed as multi-screen video installations.

Breitz’s previous subjects have included Madonna ('Immaculate Collection') and Michael Jackson ('Thriller'), but this time her focus is on leading Beatle, John Lennon. Which is where you come in…

If you are a Lennon fan then you could be one of the voices in Candice Breitz’s next installation. You need to know the lyrics of ‘Plastic Ono Band’, which is the album being featured, and you must be a serious fan, because they may test you to check you know your stuff! Plus you must be prepared to sing in front of a camera.

How to apply

If you are interested in taking part, call Katharine on 07875 619588 or email portrait@balticmill.com

The deadline for applications is Thursday 20 July and the final selection of applicants will be made on 25 July.

The shoot will take place in Newcastle towards the end of August and visitors to the Baltic will be able to see Candice Breitz’s finished show from 10 October 2006 to 7 January 2007.
