Summer Salsa heads for Tynemouth Priory

The Mouth of the Tyne Festival promises to be an explosion of world class culture, music and dance.

It's the second year of the Mouth of the Tyne Festival

Natacha Atlas is known for her fusion of Arabic and North African music

Eliza Carthy has been nominated for the Mercury Music Prize twice and won Folk Singer of the Year at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards in 2003

The Real Thing had a number one hit in the 1970s with You To Me Are Everything

The Mouth of the Tyne Festival launches into its second year and it brings a selection of world class entertainment on both sides of the Tyne.

The festival takes place on Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 July in Tynemouth and South Shields.

Cirque Troc

There's live music, street theatre and amazing one-off performances.

Tynemouth Front Street will be transformed into a cabaret, jazz and circus area with performers entertaining the crowds all weekend.

In South Tyneside, the focus will be on Bents Park and South Marine Park with fantastic acts offering something for all the family.

Open air evening concert

The highlight of the festival is a special ticket-only open air evening concert (Saturday 15 July) at Tynemouth Priory.

The Afro-Cuban All Stars (Buena Vista Social Club), Natacha Atlas, Eliza Carthy, Ratcatchers and Bellowhead will perform in the dramatic setting of the Priory.

The Afro-Cuban All Stars pay homage to Cuban music from across the decades. Band member's ages range from 13 to 81!

There is even more live music in Tynemouth Priory (free entry) on Sunday 16 July featuring 70s superstars The Real Thing.
