The Gate is a unique entertainment complex in the heart of Newcastle, featuring a collection of bars and restaurants, and a 12 screen cinema.

Inside The Gate
View from above: inside The Gate

Opening in November 2002, after nearly three years in construction, The Gate's design has been influenced by buildings in San Francisco, New York and Sydney.

The 24 metre high glass façade that separates the inside of the building with the outside world is the highest of its kind in Europe and is the entrance to a wide range of bars and clubs that have offered Newcastle a new alternative to a night out.

Inside The Gate: Interactive views
Ground floor: Take a panoramic look at the main entrance, and the gateway to the complex.
First floor: A walk upstairs and you are greeted by an array of eating places.

BBC Tyne let loose our eager reviewers for the evening, and armed with a digital camera each, asked them to check out the nightlife on offer at The Gate complex.
