A Site For Sore Ears
Right, brace yourselves, pop lovers, this might tingle a bit...
Now that Top of the Pops the TV show is no more, the Top of the Pops website is to transform into a brand new daily blog, hosted by the Radio 1 website.
So, as of Wednesday November 22nd, the Top Of the Pops website (www.bbc.co.uk/totp) will no longer be updated. There, we've SAID IT...
But! Pop lovers need not fear. The new Radio 1 Chart Show blog (http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/chartblog/) will include a similar (the same in fact, only better) mixture of news discussion, celebrity interviews and photos, pop videos, reviews, and features. Both TOTP and TOTP2 sites will be available online, but will no longer be updated.
The new blog will be a celebration and commentary on the music which makes up the Top 40, and the popstars who make that music, from the most brilliantly brilliant, to the most gloriously dreadful. Which is just a long-winded way of saying there'll be the usual tongue-in-cheek look at all things pop.
TOTP Online's Fraser McAlpine says fans of the website will find a lot of familiar ideas in the new blog: "Over the six years that TOTP Online has been in existence, we've been mildly rude about almost every pop star there is, we've put words into their mouths, we've asked them some of the most unreasonably strange questions we could think of and we've pointed at their funny clothes and giggled."
"We've also shouted about how fantastic they are, argued passionately about the giddy thrills to be found in their best work, and jumped up and down with glee every time they have made a song worth celebrating. None of this will be missing from the Radio 1 blog. That's a promise!"
So it's not really goodbye, it's more of a 'Look! Look! Over HERE!' kinda thing...
