Prisoner: Cell Block Ash
How do you solve a problem like Ashlee Simpson? It's a tricky one. We should perhaps have known that her pop career wasn't going to last forever after the notorious miming incident on Saturday Night Live back in 2004, but now Ashlee's looking at expanding her horizons - and heading into musical theatre.
According to IOL.com, Ashlee's been offered the role of murderess Roxie Hart in stage musical Chicago (played by Renee Zellweger in the movie version). Apparently Ashlee's got the choice of whether to do the show in London or on Broadway, and the site quotes American magazine Us Weekly in saying: "She will probably choose London."
If she chooses London, she'll follow in the illustrious pop footsteps of Jennifer Ellison, Denise Van Outen and Frances Ruffelle, amongst others. And for those of you who've not seen the show, it features a scene where Roxie acts as a ventriloquist's dummy while her lawyer does all the talking.
Whether the show's director plans to include a new scene whereby everybody realises Roxie is miming, at which point Roxie breaks into a hoedown and blames it on 'acid reflux' is another matter...
