The Brit Pack
If you've got a guitar lying around and you're convinced that you could conquer the music industry if you just learned how to play the pesky thing, now would be a good time to start. Word reaches the pop news desk that a whole stack of Brit popstars are conquering the notoriously tricky US market. Step forward the Monkeys, the Blunt, and the Tunstall.
The unstoppable James Blunt continues to trounce absolutely everyone who stands in his way. Blunty is this week's Billboard No.1 in the American charts with 'You're Beautiful' - the first Brit to achieve that since Elton John in 1997 with 'Candle In The Wind'. Not only that, but his album 'Back To Bedlam' is sitting pretty at No.5 in the US album charts. Resistance is futile...
Meanwhile, indie darlings The Arctic Monkeys are making inroads across the pond too - The Sun reports this morning that their album 'Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not' is America's biggest selling indie album of all time (although quite how many copies it had to sell to achieve that isn't clear - for all we know, it could be five or something).
The proper big news is that the chilly chimps are due to appear on Saturday Night Live this Saturday, which is often the first stepping stone to mainstream chart success and a nice cushy seat at the Grammys.
A source told the tab: "UK acts are doing extremely well at the moment. James Blunt is at No.1 and audiences love KT Tunstall. The Arctics are going the same way."
We wish them all the best of luck - of course, if that means James Blunt is in no great hurry to come back, we're sure we'll cope...
