Close To The Edge
You might think that U2 are best buddies with most politicians after all the work Bono does chatting them up on behalf of the Make Poverty History campaign. But when former First Lady of the US Hillary Clinton used one of their upcoming concerts to raise funds for her party, the band failed to see the funny side.
Bono's boys are set to appear at the MCI Center in Washington DC on October 19th, and Hillary has got herself a luxury suite from which to see the show. She's been offering Democrat supporters the chance to join her there, but only if they make a contribution of around £1,500 to party funds.
And in Philadelphia, senator Rick Santorum of the Republican party is doing exactly the same thing, only he's cheaper, coming in at around £600.
A U2 spokey told BBC News: U2 concerts are categorically not fundraisers for any politician. They are rock concerts for U2 fans.
Never mind, Hillary. Perhaps you could sell some hooky T-shirts outside instead?
