Brandon Flowers, singer with the Killers, has issued a formal apology to the family of a Scottish schoolgirl after he used her death as inspiration for the band's song 'Where Is She?'.
Brandon first heard about the case of 14-year-old Jodi Jones when the band played in Glasgow last year. Jodi was murdered in Dalkeith by her boyfriend Luke Mitchell in 2003, and the press coverage of his trial was what inspired Brandon to write the song from the perspective of Jodi's parents. He also explained his inspiration to the music press, which involved repeating some of the details of Jodi's death.
Brandon told the Scottish newspaper the Sunday Herald: "I came across kind of badly. I'd hate to cause offence or further hurt because of it."
He went on to say that reading reports of Jodi's murder had "affected me deeply and got me thinking about how awful it must feel to be the parent of a missing child, how powerless a person must feel in such a dreadful situation."
"There's no way on earth I could ever possibly pretend to know what it must actually feel like to suffer such a thing, and I wouldn't presume to appropriate any other individual's feelings for a song."
Can't imagine 50 Cent being so considerate somehow, can you?
