Natalie webchatted in July 2002

Natty Nat
Gorgeous girlie Natalie Imbruglia came in to chat to us - even though she had a sore throat!

Below are just some of the highlights.

Andrew Advani:
Can I come to White Lillies Island for my summer hols?
Natalie: Sorry, I'm fully booked at the moment and I might be popping home to Australia for a few weeks myself.

Baz: Hey Natalie, if you could be any other celebrity for 24 hours who would you be and why?
Natalie: Bono, probably. He seems to be the whole package. He's a rock star, he's wiped the third world debt. I'd like to be able to sing like that for one day. I think they went back to their roots with this last album.

Cajun:
Do you plan to appear in any major motion pictures to be shown in the USA?
Natalie:
I just finished a film called Johnny English which comes out in April and, yes, it will be shown in the States. It was amazing working with Rowan Atkinson. The director, Peter Howitt is also great. He did Sliding Doors. I think I'd like to do both acting and singing for as long as I can.

Anne: What is the meaning of the lyrics in 'Beauty On The Fire'?
Natalie: 'Beauty On The Fire' is about wanting what you can't have and attracting people or things that are bad for you. I've had lots of that type of experience. The whole song is very abstract. It's about throwing all your thoughts and feelings onto a fire. It's quite cleansing really. The video was shot underwater. I was actually free-diving when we shot it. One of the sharks had a funny eye and kept coming too close to people when we were shooting.

ImbrugliaFreak: Which song on White Lilies Island was the hardest to record?
Natalie: 'Goodbye'. Very difficult vocals and I just found that one really really hard. It's a very sad song. I've never done it live, actually.

Carolijn: What's the downside of having fans in general, for example, do they camp out on your lawn etc?
Natalie: I don't have fans like that. I'm really lucky. I don't get followed. I seem to have very polite fans, not fanatical ones. The fans I do have generally just tend to really like music. I have a really good website that I'm really into.

Aussiemufan: Would you ever work with William Orbit like Madonna?
Natalie: I think he's amazing. I wouldn't say no to working with him but I wouldn't like to do a whole album with him because he has a very distinctive style, and once you've had such a big hit like Madonna did, I wouldn't want to be seen to be doing the same thing.
