FAQ
- What is Search+?
- Search+ pages are search results displayed in a different way. They bring together content on a particular person, place, subject or organisation from across the BBC and from other news sources.
- How is content pulled into the Search+ pages?
- Similar to regular search results, the Search+ pages are automatically generated. The latest content that contains a word or a phrase that is appropriate to a Search+ page is automatically included on that page.
- How can I find the Search+ pages?
- You can search for Search+ pages by typing your search term into the Search box. Terms with associated Search+ pages will appear at the top of the search results.
- Do the Search+ pages pull in all available content on a particular subject?
- No. The Search+ pages include the most up-to-date and relevant items on a particular subject.
- Why is there a Search+ page on some subjects but not others?
- Based on a list of popular search terms, a range of subjects was chosen to test the concept of producing Search+ pages. If Search+ pages prove to be popular and useful, we intend to increase the number.
- Why are Search+ pages featuring content from Wikipedia?
Some Search+ pages include a description in the top left-hand corner to give users basic background information about a subject. Some of these descriptions are from the BBC website; others are drawn from Wikipedia entries.
Where we haven’t got a suitable description elsewhere on BBC Online, rather than duplicating content which is available from other reputable websites, the BBC wants to concentrate its resources on developing new, creative features that will benefit the licence fee payer. Wikipedia is available under the GNU Free Documentation Licence, and offers content that is contributed, edited and maintained by a large international user community. We plan to include similar basic descriptions from other sources in due course. If you find information that is factually incorrect, defamatory or offensive you can edit the article at Wikipedia or alert us to the problem.
- Will Search+ pages be picked up by my RSS feed?
- During this test period it will not be possible to use an RSS feed to access Search+ pages, but we intend that in future this functionality will be made available.
- How can I report a problem with the Search+ pages?
- Please use our feedback form to report a problem.
