Land Rover is always banging on about how good its 4x4s are at driving off road. So we decided to take the new Discovery not just off road but somewhere no car had ever been before. That's why Jeremy arrived at the base of a Scottish mountain and set vectors for both the summit and the annoyance of some environmentalists when he inevitably ran over a small patch of moss.
Once the Discovery, support team and film crew had all made it to the summit, Jeremy decided it would be jolly nice if we planted some sort of Top Gear flag to mark the occasion. Trouble was, nobody had thought to bring one. After some frantic improvisation from the film crew, one was quickly lashed together using a stick and one of our high-visibility safety jackets. You can see the tatty results of their efforts flapping forlornly in the breeze at the end of the film.
After filming was complete, Jeremy, who was in a rush to get somewhere else, jumped into the filming helicopter to be whisked away to catch a flight to London from the nearest airport. It was only when he was halfway there that he realised he'd still got the Discovery keys in his pocket. Cue a quick aerial U-turn and another hover over the mountain while a suitably embarrassed Clarkson dropped the keys down to the film crew. Fortunately the noise of the chopper drowned out what they were calling him.
