    Voices: Turning words into action

The new Dallow Community Centre is in need of an eye-catching piece of art that captures the spirit of the ward.

Antonio envisaged a darts match as a good snapshot of life in Dallow

Photographs of the people and places from Dallow made into a montage would be the perfect answer - but what people and what places?

What better way to find out what's important to the community than by getting those who live there to come up with the ideas - especially when they're a bunch of enthusiastic youngsters from the two local schools.

We visited the Foxdells Junior School in Dallow Road to enlist the help of the Year Seven pupils in determining what places to photograph.

After a briefing from web team members Olly Benson and Kathryn Hearn, the pupils set to work thinking about what they thought would be good to photograph.

As well as writing down their ideas for photos, they wrote detailed descriptions of the photographs, drew pictures and wrote about why that place would be representative of Dallow. As an additional aside, they wrote how they thought that area could be improved.

Using their information, we organised a day's photo shoot which would be split between Year Seven pupils at Foxdell's Junior School and Dallow Community School. See the photographs here>>

Here are some of the ideas, the 10 and 11 year olds came up with and the reasons for their chose.

Qamar: The litter and the vandalism - some people throwing the litter away in bins and some people throwing litter on the floor.
Why: This is how Dallow is: it is a beautiful area with the most kindest people but the thing wrong is the litter and the vandalism.

Sonia: The park, children playing and laughing
Why: Everyone likes coming to the park to enjoy themselves and have some fresh air

Lee: Factory, someone driving a fork lift truck and doing work
Why: You can show people what it is like to work in factories and see how things in factories work

Madiya: The shops, children buying goods at a shop
Why: There's quite a lot of shops around the Dallow area

Shannen: The Easingwold Garages, with all the rubbish people dump and children playing near the rubbish
Why: It shows some of the bad things about Dallow

Here are some of the pupils' ideas for improving Dallow:

    Ateeq: The park
People clean up after their dogs and pick up rubbish if they see any rubbish if they see any, but wear gloves for safety.

    Qamar: Dallow
The litter was cleared and if there was no more vandalism and if people took more care of their environment.

    Antonio: The pub
    If they could stop smoking

    Irzam: The Downs
The council made a little play area for the children under nine because the hills are too steep for children

Danielle: The park in Runley Road
There was not so much graffiti, not so much litter, if children didn't smoke at such a young age (or adults too)

    Tanjena: School
All children behave, wear school uniform and wear no trainers. As well have some manners and help each other.
