It's
hard to believe that years ago, it was unusual to see a car in the
streets. The older generation in Dallow remember how they would
hang out their doors watching as a car drove up the street.
Newcomers
told Lee how they were encouraged to come to Luton from Jamaica
- only to face a hostile reception.
"The
doors were slammed in our face. I wouldn't wish my worst enemy what
happened to me," one man says.
These
days, there's a real diversity to the area - although many residents
feel isolated.

new community centre |
The
Chilterns Trust is encouraging residents to get together to develop
allotment space - not only to grow healthy food, but to promote
activity and to bring together the community.
"It
gets you out, it gets you talking," says Jim, who is a proud
owner of a flourishing allotment.
And
the feeling of community is getting a massive boost when the new
community centre opens officially on 21 September.
Sarita
Jain, centre director for the Dallow Learning Community Centre,
said: "It's not for one community, it's for all of the people
in Dallow to use, no matter what their background."
