Eight Scouts from the 1st Stotfold troop took part in a special kind of camp - based on the reality TV programme Big Brother.

A special sectioned off area of The Stotfold Scout Headquarters became their home of the 11 and 12-year-olds for three days - with Ben A finally winning the coveted title and a £10 gift voucher.

    Ben A was the winner

"It went really, really well," said Scout leader Charles Kilby, "we had a lot of people taking part from all over the world - Australia, New Zealand, America and Malaysia."

In a truly interactive project people were able to vote to evict the Scouts via their website, text message, email, fax and phone - and there were thousands of votes.

Charles added: "We've been surprised at how popular it's been and how much media attention it's attracted. The boys have really enjoyed it and it's definitely something we'll do again."

There were webcams in the kitchen, diary room and lounge plus you could hear audio from the house through the Scouts' extensive website, which also included contestant profiles and a tour of the "house".

    Chocolate

"It was very difficult for boys of that age to be left alone in that kind of environment and over the three days, they managed to cook some food, although there was quite a lot of chocolate eaten," said Charles.

    The diary room.
The diary room was unused for a while when the Scouts locked themselves out!

Winner Ben A, aged 11, said he didn't have a strategy to win: "I was very shocked to win. I didn't really have a game plan. I just went into it to do the best I could."

Ben A went head to head with Ben R for the grand title - and said the worst thing about the Big Bother camp was being without television.

"It really was lots of fun, but it was hard not having any TV."

The event has been organised by five 14-year-old Scouts - Mike, Jed, Stoney, Andrew and Sam - who worked in shifts to ensure the webcams and audio system kept going over the three days.
