Eight Scouts from the 1st Stotfold troop are taking part in a special kind of camp - based on the reality TV programme Big Brother.

They entered a sectioned off area of The Stotfold Scout Headquarters on Thursday at 7pm - and the 11 and 12-year-olds will try to survive for three days without being evicted.

    The kitchen.
The kitchen webcam shows it's getting a bit untidy!

"It's just for fun," explained Scout leader Charles Kilby, "They wanted to do a camp in the style of a reality TV programme and the idea was born."

And in a truly interactive project people can vote to evict the Scouts via their website, text message, email, fax and phone.

"It's quite unique and and we're quite impressed with what we've managed to do with donated equipment," added Charles.

There are webcams in the kitchen, diary room and lounge plus you can hear audio from the house through their extensive website, which also includes contestant profiles and a tour of the "house".

    Sleepless night

Charles said the first night in the house had gone as expected - with the youngsters getting about an hour's sleep!

"The first night was fun. They went to sleep about 6am and then had to get up at 7am, so they've had very little sleep."

    The diary room.
The diary room was unused for a while when the Scouts locked themselves out!

The event has been organised by five 14-year-old Scouts and is proving very popular with over 100 phone votes and about 400 emails within the first 15 hours.

The youngsters have been given £16 for their day's shopping (£2 was deducted for not getting up in time) and on Friday morning were setting about a task of making something creative from bin liners, old CDs, sticky tape and string!

James and Darren were up in the first round of evictions - and Charles said that the winner would not be carrying off a cash prize as in C4's Big Brother, but would have the satisfaction of beating their troop counterparts.

Check back with us on Monday to find out who's won!
