This programme takes a closer look at the vibrant and colourful Italian community in Bedford, presented by Roberto Perrone.

Roberto Perrone.
Roberto slips from Italian to English in this documentary

Roberto is a familiar voice on BBC Three Counties Radio, where he hosts the Italian programme, Mondo Italiano.

He and his guests on this programme slip quite naturally between English and Italian, but in a way that can be understood and enjoyed by those who speak no Italian at all.

Indeed, Michele Arpaia, one of the grandees of the local Italian community, finds he can’t help but change language half way through his sentences, something that Roberto doesn’t mind at all!

The programme explores the work of the Anglo-Italian Association, which helps second and third-generation Italians understand and savour the depth of their heritage and culture.

Don’t be put off by the Italian language in this programme, Rob explains everything perfectly - and anyway, Italian is a beautiful language to listen to, whether you understand it or not!
