    ESSENTIAL INFO

A tattoo is created by injecting ink into the cells of your skin's dermal layer, which is about one millimetre deep. The ink is injected with the vibrating needle of an electric hand-held tool. Some people find tattoos painful, some describe it as an uncomfortable or weird sensation.

In the UK, you have to be over 18 to get a tattoo. Even with parental permission, most tattoo artists will refuse you if you're younger than 18.

Isobel Varley, from Stevenage, holds the record for the world's most tattooed senior woman. She also has 49 piercings (full story here)

    Andrea's tattoo.
Andrea from New York City (moving to London soon) shows off her tattoo.

"Alphonse Mucha inspired tattoo, 8 hours, very painful and very expensive" says Andrea

I think people should be able to do what they want with their own bodis, once they are adults. I can't say that I would ever want to look like Isobel, but I admire her self confidence to go on and do what she wants to do. Good luck to her. I have 2 tatts, one on my shoulder (rose) - 8 yrs down the line now, and one done yesterday on the small of my back, which is soooo beautiful. I think people should judge others on their BEHAVIOUR and not APPEARANCE.
