What sort of spirituality do you follow (detail here if you follow a particular faith)?
Prayer based spiritual healing called Christian Science

Was there a defining moment in your life (ie a time which formed your views)?
When I had my first baby: finding out more of God as Father Mother gave me the caring ideas I needed as a new mum.

Have your views changed over the years?
They have: I put first and give more priority to things of spiritual quality: they can be relied on.

Has one particular book made a difference to your life?
Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy. It shows us the ideas we need to live in the now, like Jesus did.

Is there a piece of music that you like to listen to feel spiritual?
The Pearl Fishers Duet by Bizet. Its inspiration moves me to persist when things seem challenging.

What's the most spiritual place you've ever been to?
The Rockies in Canada. Like many in the Bible, the mountains presence makes me feel we have a connection to the Divine greatness

Have you got a favourite mantra/saying/prayer?
"God has not given us vast learning to solve all the problems, or unfailing wisdom to direct all the wanderings of our brothers lives; but He has given to every one of us the power to be spiritual and by our spirituality to lift and enlarge and enlighten the lives we touch" Phillip Brooks

Do you believe in a God? If so, what do you think God is like.
I do believe in God, and that He is our closest relative.

Do you believe in the after life? If so, what do you think it's like.
I do believe life is eternal and because it is we do not have to wait to work it out in the future, but can begin now.

Does your faith bring you into conflict with today's day-to-day life?
It helps me look from a clear perspective not to be taken in by what we see and to act from what I understand

Do you wear anything to show your faith/spirituality?
The garment of praise - being grateful for all the good in my life

Do you do anything for the community for your faith?
I was Sunday School Superintendent, and am faith advisor for the church, for students at De Montfort University, Bedford. I serve the community in our Christian Science Reading Room.

Do you pray, and if so, how?
Yes. I like to be quiet and listen. To be friendly to people I meet everyday and do daily deeds when I can, for my neighbours.

What do you think is the new religion - if you think there is one.
People needing their space

Do you think religion has a place in today's society?
We live so close to each others lives. The kingdom of heaven within each of us is the control we need to use
more, be more universal, global;be interested in each other's faith, share what we can unite on.

Is there anything more you'd like to add about your faith?
Try reading Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy. You can be healed, helped just by reading this book

This feeling of doubt about things that we cannot see or understand is part of the scientific part of the human brain always looking for answers. However it is the people with a strong belief in whichever faith they follow that can see that there are many things that cannot be seen but are nevertheless to be believed and which give that person an inner strength from their belief. I think that having the enquiring and open mind that you have Ian gives you a very good platform from which to present Melting Pot as you are open to all faiths and can appreciate their differences with tolerance and understanding. I think it would be a wonderful world if we could all share what we believe with others of other faiths, explain the reasons for our beliefs and then agree to live in harmony understanding and being tolerant of all the different points of view and ways of life without! trying to put our view onto others.

So Ian Pearce says he doesn't believe in God because He hasn't contacted him. What does he think the Bible is? When the dead rich man asks that Lazarus be sent back to his brothers to warn them, Jesus gives Abraham these words ‘They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them.’ and points out that even if Lazarus did return they wouldn't believe. In just the same way Ian has the Bible.

Faith is an individual search and choice, faith is believing in what you believe in.

So Ian, you believe Jesus existed and he believed he was the son of God, but... do you belive he was who he said he was? or that he just existed? he could of been a pretender!!! You don't belive in God but you believe Jesus existed. I believe all the founders of religion existed- Muhammed,Confucius and the rest though I do not believe their message was the authentic one. You say you are a sort of Christian- a believer in Jesus the teacher but not Jesus the human picture of God? You mention Vietnam War and the the picture of the girl with her back burning?? Is that the same picture of the naked girl child? Did you know , if it is the same one, that she toured the UK last year talking about how her Christian faith gave her the will to forgive? so the story did not end with the photo.Proof- unfortunately that is the great secret of faith- you believe without seeing!!! No contact from God or yet to discover how he has made contact? The Church well that's us people and there is always room for improvement- we seem to be clicky by nature- something we need to continue break out off. Cheers

I am a believer in THE WAY this is a lifestyle, built not on any religion but on the teachings of JESUS.To only follow a religion has no substance!!To think we are here by chance with no purpose is absolutly ludecrous. There is a paperback book out right now "The Purpose driven Life"by Rick Warren That will help you to understand the reason we are hear? This is a must read for anyone in doubt about life here and the spiritual life to come. Know that a loving GOD cares and looks forward to your return to to him, enjoy the journey, and be safe.Cheers Dave
