Local Elections: Bedford

Butterfly Bridge in Bedford

Elections took place for a third of the council in Bedford Borough.

Labour bucked the national trend in Bedford by gaining 3 seats. However the council remains in No Overall Control.

With the emergence of so many other parties in Bedford, it was always going to be hard for any one party to gain a majority. The Conservatives remain the largest group on the council, with both Labour and the Lib Dems not far behind.

Mayor Frank Branston will be disappointed with the performance of his Better Bedford party - they suffered 2 losses.

Con - 16, Lab - 15, Lib Dem - 13, IND - 10
