    ESSENTIAL INFO

    The BBC broadcast its first appeal for children on Christmas day in 1927, 75 years ago.

    Since 1980, the BBC Children in Need appeal has raised more than £300m for disadvantaged children living in the UK.

    Last November the charity raised £26million.

    The final total for the 2001 Appeal is £25 million, £5 million more than for the 2000 Appeal.

    BBC Three Counties Radio set the World Record in 2001 for the longest continuous talk radio show after a 33-hour show.

    The sound of silence

    The 4th Potters Bar Brownies have done a sponsored silence for an hour and have been promised a grand total of £681.20. Well done to all of you!

    Dance the night away!

    Harlington Explorer Scouts are doing a 24 hour Danceathon for Children in Need. The aim is to keep at least two people dancing on Playstation Dance mats for 24 hours from 8.30pm on Friday until 8.30pm on Saturday night!

    Wax and wailing!

    15 Male staff at BSI Product Services are being sponsored for legs & chest waxing. We are also having a best dressed teddy bear competition. held at BSI Hemel Hempstead on 20th November and hoping to raise about £1,000

    Step to it

    Argos and Argos Retail Group employees in Milton Keynes CBX West and Avebury buildings are 'stepping to it' by using the stairs - when they've had enough, Pudsey lift passes are available in exchange for a donation! They will also be 'stepping to it' on treadmills from 8am to 5pm, raising as much money as they can for Children in Need. York Fitness have kindly donated four treadmills for the day. By the end of it we'll have the fittest employees in MK!

    Female staff at Tadpoles Baby and Toddler Unit persuaded male colleague Ben West that leg waxing was painless. He'll test out the theory for Children in Need on Monday, joined by Mark Relf, from Keech Cottage, children's hospice, in Luton, raising much needed cash at the same time.

    Christmas Trees

    Online Christmas Tree retailer – Pines and Needles.com – will be raising money for Children in Need by donating £5 pounds for every tree they sell this week.

    They are a family run business, started by two brothers 9 years ago - aged just 13 and 15. The first year they sold around 100 trees on a street corner, and this year they’ll be selling in excess of 5000 trees! They are selling their trees nationwide through their website – pinesandneedles.com.



    Boss becomes apprentice
    Proprietor of the Pooh Corner Day Nursery in Berhamsted, Cathy Sykes is being sponsored to try a number of different jobs for the day - including laying carpet, being a dinner lady - and making sausages!

    Scouting sleepover
    The 1st Cuffley Guides will be watching Children In Need at a sleepover.

    Spiders and sky-diving
    Tony Pratt, 29, from Hemel Hempstead, is doing a sponsored tandem skydive and then the next day the arachnophobic is having a bucket of spiders thrown over him!!
