Meeting the People

Ian Pearce joins the new Bishop of St Albans as he visits Queen's Park in Bedford.

Bishop of St Albans visits Bedford

It seems an age since Bishop Alan was introduced via the medium of You Tube back in January. Now on September 19th he will be inaugurated in a special service at Saint Albans Cathedral.

Ahead of the official introduction the Bishop is out and about in the Diocese meeting as many people as possible.

Bishop of St Albans in Bedford

Pioneering multi-faith work has been done

I caught up with him in Bedford. He was in Queen's Park finding out about the pioneering multi-faith work centered around the area's diverse places of worship.  In the afternoon he was visiting Bedford Prison looking at the chaplaincy work.

In Queen's Park he heard about the 'Voices' project which has allowed local people to tell their stories in various formats. The Anglican Priest at All Saints, Father Jay McLeod, is the Bishop's interfaith adviser and drew attention to how his predecessor had funded a muslim to work with young people in the area.

I left Bishop Alan as he was entering one of the mosques before visiting the magnificent Gurdwara.

One nice Queen's Park connection though. The charming Fusion children's choir made up from children of all faiths from Queen's Park have been selected to sing in the Cathedral At Bishop Alan's inauguration in addition to the Cathedral choristers.
