Introducing... Folk'n'Ska Souls

How did the band form?

We formed in late 2007. Jason, Duncan and Haydn Jones (New Groove Formation) started jamming a few Ska, Irish Folk and Punk tunes together. Started to like what they were hearing. Wanted to shout about stuff that was on their minds in the musical style they listen to so, Jason started writing some tunes and the others put their magic to it - liked what they heard even more!! Got Gus in on Bass, Kerri in on Drums and it all clicked!! After a few gigs, Haydn had to leave due to other commitments so got Laurie in on Guitar. Been gigging all over the place and writing new stuff all the time – been very busy this year!! Recently had a change on the drums – Boggy now on drums, Kerri on Backing Vox and Percussion.

Of all the songs you have written, what’s your current favourite and why?

Jason – Something About Me (Gets a lot of things off my chest!!)
Kerri – Something About Me
Dunc – Change (Cos its a good song!!)
Gus – Love all the songs!!
Laurie – Hypocrite (Cos its a good, stompin, ska tune!)
Boggy – Something About Me(Cos its WELL GOOD!)

What’s your most memorable gig and why?

The Bullet Bar in Camden...went down there as the opening act, got there and loads of people had come down to see us!! Had the biggest crowd by far so ended up playing last and the night was a total storm!! Wicked Night..

What’s your fan base like? What group of people would you say you appealed to most?

Anyone really, from teens jumpin about and goin mental to 40+somethings remembering the old skool ska days..even our kids love the tunes and they are all under 12!!

Name one unusual fact about each of you?

Gus likes to watch the Proms – but only on TV.
Kerri has 7 piercings.
Jason would love to have a room in his house that is completely white with no furniture, wooden floor, 1 light bulb and silence!!
Dunc owns a dog called Frank that climbs trees better than any cat!!
Boggy and Laurie are too unusual to narrow it down to one each!!

If you could record a collaboration with ANYONE - who would it be and why?

Probably The Pogues..it would be ‘Fun’.

What’s the band’s ultimate ambition or what’s your dream?

We would basically love to be able to play in the band full time and make a living out of that - not have to do day jobs! Nothing much to ask!!!
