Introducing... The Measure

The band who are funkier than being stuck in a lift with James Brown, George Clinton, Jay Kay and Curtis Mayfield.

Please state the names of all the band members and the instruments they play…

Fran Bove – Vocals and Guitar
Ollie Barnes – Vocals and Bass Guitar
Billy Farr – Vocals and Guitar
Chloe Palmer – Trumpet
Ben Wolfe - Drums

How would you describe your style of music?

Funkier than being stuck in a lift with James Brown, George Clinton, Jay Kay and Curtis Mayfield.

What would you say are your musical influences?

Jamiroquai, Jimi Hendrix, James Brown, Curtis Mayfield, John Mayer, Stevie Wonder, Steeley Dan and soooo many more

How did the band form?

Ollie was one of Fran’s mates and heard Fran playing some songs and offered his services to start a band. Ollie invited Billy to play at one of Fran’s acoustic nights when we snapped him up. Shortly after that Ben was recruited and back in January we roped Chloe in after she told us how much she loved our tunes!

Of all the songs you have written, what’s your current favourite and why?

Fran – Gettin’ me Down – cos not only do I get to solo but Billy finishes with a big calypso salsa extravaganza.
Chloé – Gettin’ me down – cos of the samba beat!
Ollie – Don’t go Changin’ cos is blumin epic!

What’s your most memorable gig and why?

Probably the student windsurf festival this year when we headlined to 500 students all dressed up as the seven deadly sins! We ended up bodging a sound system together with the DJ’s to make it loud enough, everyone was dancing and a whole bunch of people at the front kept dressing us up with their outfits!

What’s your fan base like?

A total mix, we’ve got young fans who enjoy the fresh funky sounds and love to make some shapes, we’ve had a lot of support from people who remember the sounds of Stevie Wonder and James Brown from back in the day and we’ve even been known to win over hardened metal fans who strangely felt the urge to dance the Macarena to our tunes!

What’s the weirdest thing a fan has ever done / sent to you?

Ollie had a girl ask for his sweaty t-shirt during a gig once!

Name one unusual fact about each of you?

Fran once limboed on stage with Michaela strachan, Ollie played jack in jack and the beanstalk aged 9, Billy has a fender stratocaster tattoo, Ben is a massive drum and bass fan and Chloe is a psycho (student)

If you could record a collaboration with ANYONE - who would it be and why?

James Brown, although we’d be a bit worried that we might get fined for screwing up!

What’s the band’s ultimate ambition or what’s your dream?

To bring a whole world of funk to a whole world of people.
