Introducing... New Groove Formation

How did the band form?

The band formed in early 2004 when Quinny, Haydn, Lewis & Nick got together and starting jamming in sleepy Bedfordshire. Having a mutual respect and desire to play the same sort of music, the band quickly started writing material. Afterwards Didge was enrolled as percussion and much later on NIcky & Dawn became the horn section respectively. A few more months on a few more tunes  down the line and here we are, 4 years later.

Of all the songs you have written, what’s your current favourite and why?

Turkish Delight, because it makes everyone, jump around like loonies!

What’s your most memorable gig and why?

Loads to choose from, Bedford River Festival 2006, because of the sun and a great crowd, Aussie Kiss Windsurf Festival 2007 again a great atmosphere and obviously Harlington Festival 2008, we all performed so well after a season of flat out gigging, with another awesome crowd it was a great end to the season!

What’s your fan base like? What group of people would you say you appealed to most?

We have a very varied fan base it spans a massive age range. We have seen very young children dancing to us and even the odd granny bopping. We appeal to anyone who wants a good skank!

What’s the weirdest thing a fan has ever done / sent to you?
Nicky; Nothing too weird, however, the funniest thing I’ve seen a fan do is take off her bra in front of everyone, throw it at our rapper, miss and hit the drummer!

Name one unusual fact about each of you?

Quinny -  Snores like a Chimp, so Haydn says!
Nick – Just became a dad
Dawn – Has a fashion degree
Lewis – Can actually read music
Tim – Got married at Glastonbury
Nicky – Her hands are smaller than the average bear
Haydn – Can name you the Latin name of any tree in the whole world

If you could record a collaboration with ANYONE - who would it be and why?

Nicky; Definitely Beethoven, how anyone can write like that is incredible, even more amazing that he was deaf.
Lewis  - Funk Brothers (Motown House Band), James Jamerson, need I say more!
Haydn – Neville Staples, Ska royalty
Nic – Dreadzone…..Hang on he’s already done it!
Tim – Rolf Harris, it would be didge heaven
Dawn – Specials, its all about the trombone!
Quinny – Jimi Hendrix, because…..yeeeeah!

What’s the band’s ultimate ambition or what’s your dream?

Keep making  music and keep having the good times!

Is there anything else you’d like to tell us?

We have a new album in the pipeline so watch this space!
