Luton Carnival 2008!

The rain falls on Luton's parade…

The rain fell but failed to dampen spirits as the 2008 Luton International Carnival took to the streets!

Once again the centre of Luton came to a standstill for carnival - although those in the procession were anything but still as they danced and gyrated their way along the procession route.

With many different groups, clubs, schools, societies and communities taking part, the parade brought together people in an eye catching and breath taking procession - demonstrating a diverse mix of arts, music and culture.

Although the weather may have dampened the carnival-goers themselves, it certainly failed to dampen their spirits, with the revellers thoroughly enjoying the extravaganza and the impressive line-up of music and entertainment.

Cllr Lakhbir Singh, Luton Borough Council’s new Mayor said: "I would like to thank all the visitors to the town and residents for coming out in the poor weather to support the carnival, which was a boost to all the parade groups who should be commended for braving the elements to put on a fantastic procession. There was a great family atmosphere in Wardown Park with people of all ages and cultural backgrounds having a good time. Congratulations to everyone involved in the event for making it such a success."

The selection of live musical entertainment taking place for free on just one day was quite astonishing.

With three stages and eight sound sites across the town, visitors to carnival were treated to music from around the world including, jazz, reggae, house, soca, roots, salsa and soul.

And of course, BBC Three Counties Radio's very own Gareth Lloyd was on the BBC Introducing… stage on Market Hill showcasing the very best in unsigned musical talent from across Beds, Herts and Bucks.
