Worshippers celebrate Pentecost

Worshippers celebrating in Ampthill Park

Pentecost in the Park

Christians from Mid Bedfordshire celebrate the gift of the Holy Spirit in beautiful surroundings and glorious weather.

Take a look at our photo gallery from the Pentecost in the Park celebration here:

There was a contingency plan if wet but there was no need as the sun blazed down.

Christians from churches of all denominations in Ampthill and Flitwick gathered at St Katherine's Cross in Ampthill Park. Sun hats, sunshades and a picnic lunch was the order of the day.

It's a beautiful location on top of the Greensand Ridge looking out over the Marston Vale.

Various clergy, ministers and lay readers led the service; the sermon and the blessing was given by Bishop Richard Inwood, the Bishop of Bedford.

Some rousing singing was led by the Ampthill Town Band and a belting rendition of Graham Kendrick's 'Shine Jesus, Shine' brought celebrations to close. A balloon was released representing the work of the Holy Spirit.

Pentecost is one the Church's most joyous days and a couple of hundred people stayed on to enjoy an open air picnic in the beautiful spring sunshine. A collection was taken for Christian Aid.
