Saracens 19-21 Wasps

Wycombe-based Wasps made a winning start to rugby's Premiership with a 21-19 win over Saracens at Twickenham.

Wasps scored two tries to one, with Ayoola Erinle and Tom Palmer scoring for the Buckinghamshire side, whilst Ben Johnston scored for Sarries.

Saracens Glen Jackson landed five out of six kicks, but he felt there were positives despite the defeat.

"It was good to put our pre-season training up against Wasps who are probably the best team in Europe by a long way to see how we are, and I think that obviously a loss is disappointing but there's plenty of positives we can take out of it."

Meanwhile, Wasps director of rugby Ian McGeechan felt they were worthy winners.

"I thought we should have been 10 or 12 points clear" he said.

"I thought we played well today, I thought we had control of the game and we left Saracens in it because of the mistakes we were making.

"In the end I thought we controlled it up front particularly well and I didn't think at any time that we didn't have control of the game."
