The talented cast of performers superbly bring this classic musical masterpiece to life. With the classic songs coming one after another, My Fair Lady is a wonderful evening’s entertainment. Amy Nuttall delivers a sensational performance as the squawking, East End flowergirl Eliza, her transformation into the graceful, eloquent Miss Doolittle is seamless.

The rest of the cast were also a delight to watch. Two of our finest actors Christopher Cazenove and Stephen Moore are wonderful together as the arrogant Professor Henry Higgins and the bumbling Colonel Pickering. Stephen Carlile shines as Eliza’s forlorn love interest Freddy Eynsford-Hill with a tenor rendition of "On the Street Where You Live" which made the hairs on the back of your neck stand up, and as expected, Honor Blackman is as regal and serene as ever in the role of Professor Higgins aristocratic mother. Gareth Hale of Hale and Pace fame was a revelation as Eliza’s father, in the role made famous by Stanley Holloway. He showed his strong sense of comic timing in ‘Get Me To The Church On Time’ and ‘With A Little Bit Of Luck’ in which ‘My Fair Lady’ meets ‘Stomp’!

Every single aspect of this show is a pure joy. The entire cast delight and deliver, accompanied by a full orchestra. The sets are massive and impressive, moving effortlessly from the cobbled streets of Covent Garden to the lofty study of Higgins and Pickering, and the costumes are sumptuous, especially the glorious frocks and hats in the Ascot scene and the breathtaking gowns for the Embassy Ball. Awards have deservedly been heaped on this production; from it's direction by Trevor Nunn, to the choreography by the wonderful Mathew Bourne. It truly is an absolutely luvverly night out... |
