Well Gang Show week is finally upon us and, as our producer told us, "show week's what memories are made of!" On Wednesday we saw the newest members of the gang receive their gang show scarf. This is a real honour, and marks a hard few month’s graft that’s been put in by every individual. A particularly prominent member of the gang was given his scarf on Wednesday. Our rehearsal pianist, Dominic, has been amazing! From playing songs on a loop at singing auditions to patiently playing harmonies until everyone can sing them, I don't know how we would have coped without him!

The rest of the evening we spent singing through some of the items, and did some work on the finale. Part of this involved singing "just one person" for the first time. This song is a favourite of most, and really sums up gang show. The opening of the song never fails to send shivers down my spine! We were also reminded that Wednesday meant there was only one week until curtain up, and that there was still plenty to do! We all spent Saturday at St Albans Girls School and we worked on every item in turn, tidying up routines and changing bits that didn’t quite work. After the rehearsal, some of the cast and the production team went to the Alban Arena to join the back stage, lighting and sound crews who had been setting up all day. I have never seen this happen before, and I quickly realised how much there is to do! The microphones, the drops, the sets, the lights, they all had to be put in place and checked. We had a technical rehearsal; setting up for different items and ensuring all the sets and props were ok. This seemed to go well, and I left feeling very positive about show week. | "Show week is what memories are made of!" | | David Barker Gang Show Producer |
Today (Sunday) we spent the day at the Arena, and in the afternoon we ran the first half in costume. Once everyone had worked out where they were getting changed and what they would be wearing for each item, we all moved onto stage to run the opening. It all starts to feel very real when the sets and costumes are all put together! Tomorrow (Monday) we will run through the second half in costume, which involves the mammoth task of setting the finale. Everyone one needs to be seen and it is quite a challenge to get the positions right! Although we still have work to do, I am feeling confident that once again St Albans Gang Show will show everyone what we're made of, and will really make an impact come this Wednesday! |
