This game was as important to Wycombe's promotion as it was for Yeovil, after a cagey start from both teams it was Wycombe who carved the first chance out after ten minutes through a Steve Claridge diving header which flashed just wide of Yeovil's goal. On 23 minutes Paul Terry fouled Joe Burnell 25 yards out and Clint Easton returning after a Hamstring injury, curled the ball left footed into the right hand corner of Steve Collis's net. Yeovil had the perfect answer two minutes later after Phil Jevons was fouled 30 yards from Wycombe's goal up stepped Yeovil's managers son Lee Johnson who smashed the ball right footed into the top corner of Frank Talia's goal. The second half in terms of chances and pressure belonged to Yeovil and their top scorer Phil Jevons may have had a hat trick inside ten minutes following a flurry of chances. Nathan Tyson had the chance to steal all three points at the end with a header but that was miss hit.
