A special kind of reality show is taking place - involving eight Bedfordshire Scouts! They will battle it out for the Big Bother title for three days from Wednesday 6th April in Stotfold Scout Group's own version of Big Brother - and your vote can make the difference! This is the second year the Big Bother has taken place in a sectioned off area of The Stotfold Scout Headquarters.

Spokesman Charles Kilby said: "Eight Scouts from different Troops in the district will enter the house and try to survive the three days without being evicted. A Scout will be evicted from the house twice a day and voting will be done by the general public via the website, text message, email and phone. "People can take part in the event via our website with four webcams, a live audio feed from the house as well as video reports and internet radio shows." This year's housemates are: Ashley, Ben, Chris, David, Josh, Keiran, Phil, and Tom. The non-profit making event is being organised and run by eight of the Stotfold Scouts, who will be setting the tasks, hosting the eviction shows and reporting throughout the event.

The Big Bother event was started last year by five older Scouts who discussed the idea of holding a camp in the theme of a reality TV show. The five Scouts produced all of the material for the event and stayed up and ran the event over the three days. Charles added: "This year we have taken the eight contestants from last year's Big Bother, and put them in the role of the organising team. They will be running the whole event and switching round the roles of setting the tasks, writing the website reports, Sorting the votes and hosting the eviction shows." Technology All the equipment in the show has been donated or borrowed. Charles explained: "We have had several old PCs donated that we use to produce the reports on and update the website. To get the internet connection in the Scout Hut we have borrowed the internet connection from a neighbour by running a 100m cable across several gardens." The audio feed is pushed to three servers which are hosted at people’s homes. This allows for around 100 simultaneous connections. The audio feed runs for certain times in the day and is monitored and censored.

Charles said the four webcams are controlled by a piece of software written for the event, which has a preview facility so that nothing untoward is aired! Contestants will enter the house between 6pm and 7pm on Wednesday 6th April and the winner will leave the house between 7pm and 8pm on Saturday 9th April 2005. Evictions will take place at 1pm and 7pm each day. Visit the Big Bother website using the link on the right hand side. |
