    Want to cut down?

Fed up of hangovers? We've got some top tips for cutting down on your alcohol intake.

    • Avoid rounds! You will end up drinking at the speed of the fastest drinker!

    • Try other ways to relax - sport, have a bath, listen to music.

    • Count your units... keep a drinks diary.

    • When pouring spirits at home use a shot measure (25ml = a single pub measure)

    • Alternate your drinks - 1x alcoholic then 1 alcohol free!

    • Budget for your alcohol and stick to it!

    Pouring a pint.

    • 'I won't drink before..' set a time and stick to it.

    • Do something when you're drinking, like having a meal and playing cards/pool to slow you down.

    • Drink a lower strength drink: just changing to a pint of 3.8% ABV lager from a 5.2% ABV pint can save nearly a unit per pint.

    • Thirsty? Quench your thirst with soft drinks before starting on the alcohol.

    • Put your drinks down between sips - you drink twice as fast if you keep holding it.

To be safe and drink sensibly

Men should drink no more than 3-4 units a day.
Women should drink no more than 2-3 units a day.
Everyone should have 2 alcohol free days a week.

    One Unit =
Half a pint of beer/lager of 3.5% ABV
    25ml (single) measure of spirits
125ml (small) glass of 9% ABV wine
