    Radio Nation - Kirren Ram

Kirren Ram from Letchworth is one of those lucky people who knows where she's going in life!

    Radio Nation - Taking Part

Radio Nation is a unique opportunity to make your own radio programme. Whoever you are, whatever you do, you could have your story told on BBC Three Counties Radio.

If you would like to take part send your contact details and a brief explanation of why you feel Radio Nation is for you to: toby.friedner@bbc.co.uk or call Three Counties Action on 01582 44 11 11 during office hours and leave your details.

Or write in to: Radio Nation, BBC Three Counties, 1 Hastings Street, Luton LU1 5XL.

At 19-years-old, Kirren is about to complete an NVQ level 3 in cooking and is also currently on a modern apprenticeship scheme, learning to become a chef.

According to Kirren, some Asian woman, like herself, rarely get the chance to pursue the career they want to and in some families the suggestion that a young Asian girl may want to become a chef in secular British society would be frowned upon.

Kirren herself talks about the need to overcome certain prejudices that might have hampered a weaker person.

But because of the suppport she's had from her mother and her friends and her unerring desire to succeed, Kirren is flourishing in her chosen profession and one day aspires to open her own restaurant.

Use the audio link on the right to listen to Kirren's story.
