Make your mark

Miawi - Mia, the designer, describes her collection as 'a fusion between the two cultures of Malawi and the West.' Recycled second hand clothes from Malawi have been combined with traditional textiles resulting in contemporary and stylish womenswear. She thinks 'we should forget fast fashion and take stock of what we've already got in our wardrobes and think about ways to re-style'. They intend to use the manufacture of their clothing as a basis for creating Fairtrade co-operatives in the region.

Three teams of young design talent went head to head on the catwalk at the Make Your Mark in Fashion grand finale during London Fashion Week. A cash prize for their businesses was at stake. The winner was Miawi who had worked with Junky Styling to create an exciting new range from second hand clothing sourced - and to be made - in Malawi. Here we show you images from the catwalk show.
