We will explore aspects of the historic mining landscape in the Grinton Moor area including medieval bales, hushes, levels, the well preserved smelt mill and its flue.

Join A leisurely walk of approximately four miles; allow three hours. Participants should bring drinks and snacks, wear suitably stout footwear and carry clothing to suit all weathers.

SWAAG is a group of enthusiasts in the northernmost Yorkshiredales who are contributing to the knowledge base of the Show more… history of our dales through archaeological and related activity. SWAAG, affiliated with the Swaledale Museum, work under the guidance and supervision of Tim Laurie, the leading expert on prehistoric landscapes in the area. Our work programme meets a wide range of interests: site surveying and mapping linking geology to historic land use, recording ancient and relict vegetation and trees as well as publishing reports. We are committed to providing associated community activities. We are currently planning our first excavation project.Show less…
