This is a self-led walk up to the summit of Roseberry Topping, where National Trust staff will be waiting at the top to serve you at this popular annual tea-party. The staff are also available to chat to people about the site, it's history, wildlife and management. Tea and cake from £2.50.

About this location

The National Trust manages this distinctive hill. Cover 5,000 years of geological history with each footstep up to Show more… Roseberry's peak at 320m above sea level to take in spectacular panoramic views. Imagine 4,000 years of human activity on and around this iconic landmark which has served as a Bronze Age burial ground, a sacred site named in honour of Odin, Norse God of War, and a beacon to warn of maritime invasion. More recently, the area has provided a living to miners of jet, whinstone and ironstone and to farmers who still work the land today. A network of footpaths links a mosaic of ancient woodland, moorland, grassland and an intriguing disused quarry.
