Most astronomers now accept a cosmological model in which dark matter and dark energy determine the growth of the large-scale structure of the Universe. We expectation that galaxies are built on top of these dark-matter structures, but can we explain the huge variety of galaxies we observe?
The event will start with a talk by Prof A Aragón-Salamanca (University of Nottingham) titled The Formation and Transformation of Galaxies. Current ideas on how galaxies are formed and transformed are presented and are supported by several recent observational results obtained by his team.
