In 2014, we will be continuing our excavation of the early 18th century kitchen midden discovered during the 2010 excavations. This community excavation has so far produced an assemblage of regionally important artefacts, and is likely to uncover more artefacts of a similar nature over the coming years.

No charges are made: Participation is free, but under the guidance and instruction of professional archaeologists.

All activities take place outdoors, please bring appropriate clothing. Please note: All participants under 16 years of age must be accompanied by an adult.

This community archaeology excavation is being run by M W McCoy Archaeological Associates in partnership with Staveley Town Council and Staveley History Society.

Staveley Hall is one of the architectural treasures of Staveley. It is a Grade II Listed Building. Staveley Hall in its Show more… present form was built by Sir Peter Frecheville in 1604. Before the current building there have been buildings on this site for over 700 years but details of these are sketchy, although the archaeological excavations that have been conducted in 2005, 2006 and 2010 are helping us understand the situation better.Show less…
